The book is broken into 3 sections
that talk specifically about design, planning and marketing issues
associated with web site design. From reviewing the basic principles of
design from a web perspective to prototyping and search engine
optimization, author Brian Miller does an excellent job of explaining
the specifics of the medium without getting bogged down in markup
languages. As a predominantly print-based graphic designer, “Above the
Fold” gave me the knowledge and tools to design just as successfully and
comfortably for the web.

Re: Book Review- Above The Fold: Understanding the Principles of Successful Web Site Design

Joe definitely took a leap of faith with this but you can see it paid off.

The percentage of total Foursquare users in Milwaukee that showed up for the

event I think it a testament to how powerful promotions like this can be and

how small business should be taking platforms like Foursquare seriously.

Re: The Next Disruptive Gadget Is Here. They will not be so lucky with their tablet products.

Apple's marketing prowess has been honed by marketing not only computers, but also CE devices (hello iPod) for years. Marketing and retail are soft advantages that other tablet manufacturers are going to have a hard time matching. Your examples of Motorola's early failures speak volumes to this challenge.

Re: A First Look At The New Facebook Inbox

k this is fucked.. i dont want my chat in my inbox.. and when you wanna delete something you have to do it one by one.. this is a sick jooke.. how do u get the old one back ?

Re: Reinventing Real Estate Websites With WordPress 3 Theme Frameworks: What Agents Need To Know

I love working with you too Michelle!
sources and particularly HOW I engage the web and how choices of medium
affect my habits. I've been trimming a lot, and focusing this month. I
recently read Kevin Kelly's "What Technology Wants" and it really had a big
impact on me. Particularly being skeptical of behaviors and habits that come
with one choice of tech over another. Solving problems the in the most
effective, simple way possible should be a primary goal. I think that social
media's take over of our attention, and the habits it changes and replaces
needs close examination. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

Re: In Defense Of RSS

Thanks Rob. Can you send me the link to the post or link to it here in the
comments? I'd like to read it. It's ridiculous to say that RSS is "too old".
That argument doesn't even make sense. The only way we should judge a
specific technology is in how well it solves the problem. We don't call
hammers old because theyve been around for thousands of years, do we? It's
still the best thing for getting a nail into a wall.

Re: In Defense Of RSS

Great post Steffan. For now, but I can see this changing very significantly as Social Media platforms continue to look for ways to generate income.

Blogging doubles the number of inbound links to a company’s website, and increases visitors to the site by over 50% on average. This is great news for all Bloggers and those developing a Blog, BUT no big shock! So many websites look sad in comparison and NEVER change!

Many companies still spend a fortune calling their "web designer" when it comes to the slightest change of content or a website update. To update a Blog is so simple and, most importantly, cost effective; whether a company designates a suitable staff member or asks their "Blog buddy" to spend 15 minutes on some minor adjustments, it is an easy task.

For the sceptics out there, Social Media needs to continue to make it obvious that Web 2.0 IS different and more user friendly and most importantly in these tough financial times, that it IS (or can be) VERY cost effective.

Re: My 3 Themes for 2011

Thanks, Luke. Seems to coincide pretty well with presence and focus. Just to be mindful of what I'm doing, when I'm doing it, and not be in the past or the future or wrapped up in my brain with a hundred to-dos or sneaking a peek at my iPhone every time the little email chime goes off (six hundred times an hour). I didn't even harvest one plot of Farmville clover while typing this, either! (Threw that in to cover "personality".)

You can do it...
